The Froebelian School, Horsforth, has donated generously to help the people of Ukraine.

When the Headteacher of The Froebelian School, Mrs Catherine Dodds, heard that a close friend was planning to visit Poland to help Ukrainian refugees for a second time since the war began, she felt compelled to help.

Appealing to members of the whole school community of pupils, staff, family and friends, Mrs Dodds set the target of filling two suitcases with essential items including toys, toiletries, underwear and socks to send to Poland to help people that urgently need them.

Mrs Dodds said: “In April, a friend of mine called Jane went out to Krakow in Poland to volunteer in one of the many refugee centres there. The stories she has shared with me are both heart-breaking and heart-warming. She said it was devastating to see so many people who are afraid and seeking safety, but the warmth and gratitude of the Ukrainian people were humbling. Jane is planning a further visit to Poland in June and I was keen for our school to support her work there.”

Donations soon came flooding in and Mrs Dodds was delighted to present Jane with not just two, but four huge suitcases of items.

She added: “The response to the appeal for donations from the Froebelian Family has been staggering and I am so grateful for the continued generosity of our school community.”
