The Trinity U12 Football team have been crowned county champions after winning the Surrey Cup in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Whitgift School.

The match was played at Leatherhead FC Youth Complex, after Trinity earned their place following matches against Esher High School, Cheam High School, Hampton School, and a 4-1 victory over Coombe Boys’ School in the semi-finals.

The game kicked off with a great goal from Trinity’s Omar Leon, with Whitgift fighting back to equalize, and then take the lead. As half-time approached Trinity’s Ollie Scarles had a wonder strike at goal from the half way line and scored the equalizer. This was followed by a remarkable effort from Trinity’s Andrew Dowsett, who leapt through the air to header in the winning goal. Trinity’s strong defence held out a determined Whitgift until the final whistle blew. Trinity’s goalkeeper, Jamie Potts, was named Man of the Match.

The team, coached by David Kingston, Lucy Charlton and Stefan Gibberd, first started training together eight months ago, and their coaches couldn’t be happier.

David Kingston, Head of Football, said: ‘The boys have gone from strength to strength this season and it has been a pleasure to work with them. We played some fantastic teams on the way to the final, and beating a committed Whitgift team to win the trophy was a pleasing achievement. The boys who took part should be very proud.’
