Founded in 1933, Aberdour is an award-winning and extremely successful preparatory school where boys and girls aged 2-13 benefit from learning, playing and growing together in a caring and safe environment. Set in 12 acres of parkland and with a wide range of specialist facilities and specialist staff, we are large enough to offer the breadth of opportunity you would wish for your child but small classes ensure that each pupil is individually supported. At Aberdour, every child has the opportunity to shine. Children are encouraged to achieve their potential and it is our belief that every child who walks through our door has brilliance within them. It is our aim to find and nurture that brilliance and celebrate, as a whole community, the success of every child.

Personalised Achievement Learning (PAL) is our own system for maximising individual achievement and learning. Parents send their children to Aberdour because they want them to get the most that they possibly can from their primary education. PAL enables us to build a bespoke education for each and every child. The guiding principle is that we place the child at the centre of everything we do. At Aberdour we manage their educational process, in its most holistic sense, focusing on the individual child.

  • We recognise the aspirations of each child
  • We understand each child’s personal learning style
  • We provide truly flexible learning programmes, truly flexible teaching and access to a broad range of academic, sporting and extra-curricular activities
  • We actively manage each child’s goals and progress, adapting their education so that it stretches and flexes as the child develops
  • At Aberdour, we follow our own three elements of educational development - academic, pastoral and aspirational.

Children can join Aberdour at age 2 in the Pre-Preparatory department and then transfer to the Preparatory school at age 7. Pupils are prepared for all the major Senior Schools and many scholarships have been won, including Academic, Music, Dance, Information Technology, Drama and All-rounder awards.

The School enjoys excellent facilities and has extensive grounds with adventure play areas, a large tree house, woodlands and acres of sports field. As well as the ample playing fields there are two all-weather areas, a large sports hall and an indoor heated swimming pool. These facilities enable the children to participate in a wide range of sporting activities. There is a comprehensive range of after-school clubs which include amongst others, fencing, gymnastics, dance and drama, chess and orchestra. Language lessons include French, Spanish and Mandarin. Drama, Art and Music have a major role in the school curriculum. There is a wide range of specialist music lessons in all instruments and the opportunity to join either the orchestra or choir.

Aberdour has two science laboratories, a design technology classroom and an impressive brand new Arts & Innovation Centre comprising a STEM Room, classrooms, Language Studio, Music rooms and Dance studio. The school has also just opened a brand new Digital Creativity Room incorporating augmented and virtual reality learning.

Aberdour offers a uniquely personalised education and was rated 'outstanding' in all areas in its most recent ISI Inspection.
