Setting standards for life

Monkton Prep School, in the World Heritage City of Bath, is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 7–13. We pride ourselves on our academic excellence, our strong pastoral care and our Christian ethos. At Monkton, we are setting standards for life; giving young people the qualities of character and values they need to become valued friends, confident team players and inspiring leaders.

A broad and varied curriculum

The syllabus in each subject is aimed at, and beyond, the requirements of National Curriculum up to the end of Year 6, and also the Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations at 13+. The Prep School has subject specialist teachers which enables both great breadth and depth of teaching. All pupils in our Year 7 and 8 year groups at Monkton have the opportunity to be leaders and mentors and take on responsibilities; this is an integral part of their education. Many opportunities are provided for children to grow as leaders, as independent thinkers and in their self-confidence, so they are well-prepared for the next step.

A wide range of activities

The activity programme is a key and exciting part of life at Monkton. The choice is extremely varied and includes gymnastics, swimming, choir, football and animation to name just a few. There are some brilliant events throughout the year and these together with music, drama and sporting competitions provide many opportunities for pupils to learn and grow individually and as part of a team.

Pastoral care

The happiness and well-being of each child is central to what we do. Through our inclusive approach each pupil is encouraged to try new things, develop their skills and talents and achieve in every area of school life. At Monkton we believe that every child is an individual, and we provide an education that encourages the development of every child academically, emotionally and spiritually to enable them to go out into the world and play their part in transforming the community and society around them.
