The Royal Grammar School is a special place, proud of its heritage, known and respected throughout the country as well as the North East. We inspire and nurture our students to be the best they can be, creating a deep sense of belonging and forging connections that will last a lifetime.

Our students go on to study highly selective courses at the most sought-after universities, but also leave realising that life outside the classroom has been equally rewarding.

Excellence and success are built on the freedom our students are given to explore and the desire to push boundaries both in and outside the classroom. By exploring their passions in a happy environment we encourage self-expression and truly nurture their academic promise.

All students, from the lowest age of seven through to the top end of the senior school at 18, are encouraged to get involved with a wide range of activities, challenging and stretching their minds to evolve new ways of thinking and discover future opportunities.

Student well-being is at the heart of everything we do. Our warm and caring culture helps nurture confidence and develop all the skills needed for a successful and happy life. Adopting a team around the child approach, we bring together a number of associated partners including, teachers, parents, counsellors and school nurses, to offer support to students, doing all we can to ensure they feel happy, supported and valued on their journey through school.

We are able to combine all of this on one site, based in the heart of Jesmond, just a stone’s throw from Newcastle city centre. The school has been in its present location since 1906 and has some fine Edwardian buildings, yet we continue to invest to ensure we have first class facilities with the latest technologies. Our sports facility opened its doors in September 2015 and has a 25m pool, free-weights gym, fitness studio and a second sports hall. This sits alongside an impressive Performing Arts Centre which features a 300-seater theatre, recording studio, dance studio, individual teaching rooms and a keyboard lab, and we are about to commence our next building development project which will create more inspiring spaces for learning.
