Educating boys and girls from the age of 3 to 18 years, this safe and caring school is set in 45 acres of spacious, stunning grounds which house beautiful old architecture combined with new modern builds and facilities. Founded in 1879, it is home to 600 day and boarding pupils from local, UK and international families and welcomes boarders from 7 years of age.

St Lawrence is a medium-sized school - small enough to ensure that individual pupils receive the attention and care they require, but large enough to provide outstanding facilities. Visitors to the school often remark on the excellent atmosphere within its walls, on the friendly familiarity that exists between staff and pupils, and on the politeness that they see around them. The school is very proud of the level and quality of care that the staff provide to all of its pupils, especially those who are boarders and for whom the school is their home.

In the Classroom

Academic standards are high across the school and an extensive choice of GCSEs and A-levels are offered, with an excellent success rate of pupils going on to their first choice university. Our policy for keeping class sizes small ensures that our teachers can look after the individual needs of each pupil, so that high-flyers gain their places at the top universities, and our less able pupils develop skills in areas which will serve them well in the future.

Outside the Classroom

Sporting facilities are exceptional, and expert coaching is provided at all levels in a variety of disciplines including rugby, netball, hockey and cricket. The magnificent sports centre houses a fitness suite, squash courts, climbing wall, dance studio and a large sports hall for badminton, basketball, etc.

Music and drama flourish, enhanced by the school's 500-seat theatre, and there are many opportunities for pupils to perform. All pupils benefit from an extensive activities programme which in the Senior School includes the CCF (Combined Cadet Force) and a thriving Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, as well as chess, archery, golf, fencing, football, sailing, horse riding, swimming, table tennis, musical theatre and many more activities.

Boarding at St Lawrence

The school is a vibrant and exciting place with a strong sense of community and superb pastoral care. Boarding is central to the school's life and is one of our great strengths. A wide range of evening and weekend activities are provided for boarders and additional events and fun day trips are organised.

We try very hard to provide a 'home-from-home' for our boarding pupils, both in terms of comfort and atmosphere. In recent years, a massive programme of investment has created some truly remarkable facilities for our boarders, and all rooms are en-suite. We are proud to say that most visiting families comment that our boarding facilities are the finest they have ever seen!

The self-contained campus is situated within easy walking distance of the historic seaside town of Ramsgate. It has excellent transport links to the continent, being near both Dover and the Channel Tunnel. London is only 75 minutes away by high-speed rail link to St Pancras International. Gatwick and Heathrow are under two hours away.

Do come and visit - you and your family will receive a very warm welcome.
