The Froebelian School in Horsforth is a thriving and dynamic independent prep school, which places children at the very heart of all it strives to achieve. From the age of three, we seek to equip our boys and girls with a lifelong thirst for learning and the school continually achieves impressive levels of academic success; preparing our children for the next stage in their educational journey.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate report in 2017 judged The Froebelian School as ‘excellent’ for the quality of the pupils' achievements and the quality of pupils' personal development - this is the highest judgement available.

The inspectors accurately captured the essence of Froebelian and were struck by the children’s high levels of academic performance, their attitudes to learning and the quality, breadth and depth of their personal development.

'The pupils' attitudes to learning are exceptional.' ISI Inspectorate 2017

We are passionate that all children enjoy a positive experience at school each and every day. Our aim is to provide a first class all-round education and committed pastoral care in which both the unique needs of our children as individuals are met and their talents can flourish in a caring, structured and secure environment. As a result, our children regularly secure a place at their first choice senior school and we enjoy an excellent scholarship success rate.

Welcoming around 180 pupils between the ages of 3 and 11, we set the highest standards and expectations and The Froebelian School is acknowledged as one of the North’s leading independent prep schools. We have been placed consistently as the highest ranked school in the area in the prestigious Sunday Times Parent Power Survey.

Our children are bright, inquisitive individuals and we endeavour to cater for their unique abilities, interests and aspirations. This enables us to develop the whole child and we work hard to build solid foundations, which balance both the co-curricular and academic spheres of school life and honour our school motto - 'Giving a flying start to the citizens of tomorrow.'

The school offers outstanding opportunities, which promote growth in our children's personal and social development. We have built an excellent reputation for our co-curricular provision in sport, music, drama and technology. We foster our children’s curiosity and imagination at every stage of school life and the children are nurtured and supported by an excellent staff: pupil ratio of 1:10.

Situated in Horsforth, a pleasant and vibrant suburb of Leeds near to the ring road, the school is easily accessible from most areas of Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate. Our site is very secure with a wooded area offering delightful views over the Aire valley.

In 2015, the Froebelian School opened a new nursery, First-Steps, which follows the school’s ethos closely and offers younger children the opportunity to start realising their full potential at an earlier age. The private day nursery on New Road Side in Horsforth was given a judgment of ‘outstanding’ in each aspect of its first ever Ofsted inspection recently as well the overall verdict. It is open 51 weeks a year to all children.

'The leadership and management are inspirational.' Ofsted

At Froebelian the children and staff work harmoniously together creating a special place, with a uniquely happy atmosphere.

The school is an educational charity where ultimate responsibility rests with a School Council (governors). The day-to-day running of the school is delegated to the Headteacher, supported by a senior leadership team.
