The Unicorn School is a specialist, independent day school for girls and boys aged 6 to 16 years who have Specific Learning Difficulties: dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Pupils can join us at any age from Year 2 upwards, and now have the opportunity to complete both their primary and their secondary education at our school.
The Unicorn School provides a nurturing environment in which every pupil is helped to build self-confidence, appreciate their learning difficulties and develop their own personal learning style. Our goal is for every child to flourish at The Unicorn School, leaving with the confidence to learn, the appetite for study, and the desire to continue to succeed in their education and beyond.
Our bespoke approach integrates all aspects of learning under one roof: Highly qualified teachers with a passion for special educational needs, small class sizes, an adapted National Curriculum made accessible to those with learning difficulties, specialist teaching techniques, one-to-one tuition for every pupil, focused study sessions to support GCSE preparation, and for those who need it, in-house Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Providing a cherishing environment and specialist teaching, The Unicorn School bridges the gap between our pupils' current performance and their potential achievement.
The Unicorn School has undergone ground breaking developments, becoming the only dyslexia-specialist day school in Oxfordshire to provide GCSE education. We also offer one-year GCSE re-sit courses.
We have carefully selected a GCSE programme which will enable our pupils to achieve a sound bank of essential qualifications. By focussing on a small number of key subjects, we give our pupils the best opportunity to succeed. Our GCSE courses have been chosen to play to our pupils' many strengths, avoiding those subjects with a heavy bias towards writing, spelling and punctuation; or with an extensive research element. Our GCSE teachers are highly qualified professionals. Specialist teaching makes the GCSE syllabus accessible to pupils with dyslexia and related learning difficulties.
A Quarter-Century of Achievement
In 2016 we celebrated our school's 25-year anniversary. Founded in 1991, The Unicorn School has supported over 500 pupils with our specialist teaching. We begin our second quarter-century with pride in our achievements and excitement for the future development of our school.
