The White House Prep School recently celebrated its 30 year anniversary and is continuing to go from strength to strength, most recently being named by the Sunday Times in their top ten "Best Prep Schools in London" and 54th nationally. Family run for 30 years, the co-educational prep school located in leafy Clapham, is still helmed by Founder and Principal Mary McCahery. Mary is still deeply involved with the school and the development of the school’s pupils along with the long-standing, enthusiastic and brilliant teaching staff. Their motto 'Curo et Consocio' and ethos "Our Family School, Your Family School" set the tone of daily life at The White House and show the great importance placed on the family nature and approach, so often absent in schools these days.
The White House Prep prides itself on choosing to be deliberately small in size and this commitment, together with excellent teachers, inspires and encourages individuality in all pupils. Children are nurtured throughout their school career so that when they leave at 11+ they are confident, well-mannered and armed with an excellent education. Children go on to a selection of the best schools in London and surrounding boarding schools, with ver 40% of children receiving scholarships year on year. This excellence was commended in the school's recent ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) inspection where they were awarded Outstanding in every area for the whole school.
The extensive curriculum is enriched with French, Spanish, Latin, Music, Drama, Sports, IT and more. The recent IT suite upgrade has seen the adoption of a cloud-based curriculum, which places cyber security and coding at the forefront, giving the children essential tools in the evolving technology landscape. Teachers keep children invigorated and inspired by taking them out of the classroom on trips to the latest exhibitions and museums and the school has recently introduced reading The Week Junior in class to broaden pupils knowledge and understanding of current events. After-school clubs are popular and pupils can enjoy a wide variety including Football, Car Club, Golf, Karate, Netball, Swimming, Choir, Ballet, Computing, Chess, Badminton, Science, Cooking and Fashion.
Pastoral care and ensuring children are happy at school is paramount. Pupils are known by teachers throughout the school and this means they can visit any of them if they have a problem. They enjoy a close relationship with their form teacher and the school works closely with parents as partners in the child's education.
The White House offers its pupils the ability to have a complete education and a developmental journey that can start from Woodentops Nurseries from 6 months if needed (Part of The White House Family) and Woodentops Kindergarten (from 2.5 yrs old) all the way through to leaving at 11+. A large number of siblings and a very supportive parental body means that the school has an exceptionally nurturing atmosphere. They, like the school are focused on creating happy, caring and confident young children who have a real sense of curiosity and love of learning. This develops children that stand out from their peers. Confident but without arrogance, self-assured but not pushy with a strong moral compass and unbounded enthusiasm who have good manners and respect for each other.
