King’s House School in Richmond is transitioning to coeducation

King’s House, an independent day prep school for pupils aged 3 to 13, is delighted to be welcoming girls into Reception for the first time from September 2024.

Following a great deal of research and consideration over recent years, the Governors and Senior Management Team have decided that now is the right time for King’s House to transition to co-education. The decision has been driven by growing demand from current and prospective parents for a co-ed prep school in Richmond.

King’s House Nursery has been co-ed since it opened in 2009, and girls will now be able to transition into the Reception Class for the first time in September 2024. Co-education will then be phased in year-by-year.

Head, Mark Turner, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming girls into the school community, as we enter this new phase in our history. A nurturing environment and excellent pastoral care remain at the heart of the King’s House community. Both boys and girls will now be able to benefit equally from our high-quality, broad and balanced education, which fosters a lifelong love of learning and best prepares them for the transition to senior school.”

Chair of Governors, Chris Laverty, said: “The Governing Body and Senior Management Team have reached this decision after much consideration, and ultimately the move to coeducation has been led by parent demand. We are all thrilled that girls will be able to join Reception from 2024, and we look forward to welcoming them and their families.”
