Pupils at King's House School awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag

Eco-Schools is an international education programme that prompts young people to explore sustainability and climate change and take action. The Green Flag acknowledges, rewards, and celebrates young people’s environmental actions.

The KHS Eco-Schools Committee was set up during the 2021-22 academic year, and pupil representatives from the Senior Department voted on the topics they wanted to address at school. This included litter, biodiversity and marine projects.

Over the last year activities have included:

  • Creating an 8 point Eco-Code
  • Organising regular litter picks and producing posters for around school
  • Working with the Woodland Trust to plant trees at King's House Sports Ground to improve the biodiversity of the area
  • The Nursery planted trees, flowers, and plants with the Albert’s Residents Association to improve the local area

Eco-Schools said: “It is wonderful to hear that the children have developed their confidence and growth mindsets, skills in leadership, active citizenship, and how to work in a team! It is clear that your approach to the Eco-Committee demonstrates a proactive, inclusive and educational approach to the programme.”

Congratulations to the pupils, who have been so pro-active in thinking of ways to look after their surroundings and care for the environment. King's House looks forward to more exciting activities from the Eco-Schools Committee this year! Led by the Year 8 Eco-Leaders, the boys are choosing activities surrounding marine, energy and the school grounds for 2022-23.
