Abbot's Hill School is a happy and thriving community in which pupils aim high, grasp opportunities, enjoy learning and make lasting friendships. The Independent Schools Inspectorate awarded Abbot's Hill School the highest rating 'Excellent' across all areas of the schools. The nursery has also been recognised as 'Outstanding' in all areas of the EYFS frameworkI as well as receiving accreditation with Early Years Quality Standards by Herts for Learning.
The school offers an all-round education for girls aged 4-16 years, and the Day Nursery & Pre-School caters for girls and boys from 6 months. Our happy and united community gives each pupil the opportunity to shine.
The school is set within 76 acres of parkland only 10 minutes from St Albans, a 15 minute walk from the nearest stop on the Euston train line, and seven minutes' drive from junction 20 of the M25. Our first-rate facilities provide space for a wide range of sports and extra-curricular activities including swimming, golf, football and rugby alongside the traditional netball and lacrosse. The school runs an equestrian club and has a thriving ski team who enjoy the proximity of the Hemel Snow Dome. We are lucky enough to have a county standard cross-country course, a full orienteering route through our woodland and extensive tennis facilities including an on-site professional tennis facility. Our historic campus offers diverse opportunities in a magnificent country setting.
Abbot's Hill has a strong record of academic success. Throughout the school, pupils are taught in genuinely small classes. Excellent teaching and personalised support ensure that everyone is inspired to exceed their potential and to thrive.
The broad curriculum is enhanced by a wide range of trips and activities to stimulate learning. Extra-curricular clubs offer a lively balance of music, sports, languages, debating, drama and more. In short, there is something for everyone!
At Abbot's Hill, we pride ourselves on our pastoral care. The school's ethos is one which places the well-being and success of children at the heart of all it does, and this is reflected in many aspects of school life. We give individual attention to each girl so that she will discover her own, unique strengths, learn who she is and succeeds at whatever she sets her mind to. Abbot's Hill achieves something very remarkable as a result: we are truly a community of individuals where every pupil is known and celebrated.
In such a nurturing environment, pupils grow naturally in confidence, are happy to embrace new challenges and eagerly take on leadership roles and responsibilities. Authentic, not arrogant, Abbot's Hill pupils embody confidence and self-belief. They therefore leave fully equipped to take on the challenges and opportunities life has to offer.
We are proudly non-selective on entry. Therefore, our consistently excellent results at GCSE - with superb value-added scores for all pupils - are testament to our ethos: at Abbot’s Hill, your daughter will achieve her very best because she is happy. Pupils gain access at 16+ to a wide variety of highly sought-after Sixth Forms, schools and colleges, frequently attracting scholarships to some of the most competitive courses.
Our approach and ethos was validated by the 2020 ISI report. Head, Mrs Kathryn Gorman, said "The Independent Schools' Inspectorate understand our simple philosophy; that happy pupils learn and grow with confidence. We know that our pupils are celebrated as individuals and therefore develop into wonderful young adults ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of life."
