Avon House is a co-educational Independent Prep School situated on the edge of Epping Forest. A two-form entry structure allows for well-proportioned classes catering for pupils in preparation for 11+ and Common Entrance examinations. Our curriculum is broad and is delivered by an experienced team of teachers many of which specialise in languages, music, sport and art. Our partnership with The Woodford Wells Club gives pupils club membership as well as good access to the ground’s facilities during the school week.

Pupils attainment at the end of Early Years is strong with most children exceeding in their goals before entering Key Stage 1. Using the seven areas of learning, the team offer a broad and balanced approach across the curriculum. Strength from daily reading and writing as well as a structured approach to maths, places the children well above the national average as a cohort.

Embracing the technologies of the future offers the pupils exciting opportunities to explore learning for themselves. The basics of engineering are explored in Early Years and built on in subsequent years. The use of technology in the classroom is important and in our Prep Department children have their own Chrome Book to support this independence in learning. STEM is a developing area of school and our focused STEM Week gives rise to project-based work and collaboration across the school.

When the time comes for the 11+ to be the main focus we offer mock interviews and clear guidance of the exam process within our 11+ Exam Preparation Programme and are proud that our pupils receive first choice offers in most cases and that the destination school will drive them onto success following firm foundations we developed along the way and are honoured to fly under the UNICEF banner of a Rights Respecting environment for the next generation of successful adults.

Avon House is a school community where children are valued and encouraged to demonstrate their personalities both in class and beyond. Through music, sport and the arts there is something for each individual and opportunities to work together.

By visiting our school, we hope you will discover for yourself that Avon House is the right place to send your child for these formative years.
