As parents, we often ask ourselves how we can help our children become happy and successful.

As educators, we are asking the same question, and Bedford Girls' School believes the answers lie in preparing students not for the world of today but for the world of tomorrow. We believe in developing lifelong learners who are able to communicate, collaborate, question, work independently and engage in an ever changing world.

Employers often tell us that graduates are unable to think for themselves, articulate clearly or work cross-functionally. It is the role of educators to make sure students are prepared to enter a global world with confidence and knowledge.

Underpinned by the International Baccalaureate philosophy, Bedford Girls' School focuses on providing a truly holistic education for girls aged 7 to 18. Central to the School's ethos is delivering a forward thinking education, which is not solely determined by academic success, but by the development of wider learner attributes, ensuring students are equipped with the skills and self-assurance to face the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Our education puts equal emphasis on the co-curricular and the academic, engaging students in drama, music and sport where they learn vital wider life skills. We help our students recognise the responsibility they have to create a better world through extensive community service programmes.

Girls join us from the age of 7 (into Year 3) and our Junior School offers an exciting and innovative International Baccalaureate led curriculum developing inquiring minds, where the girls think independently and embrace creativity. As they move into the Senior School in Year 7, we embed deeper learning skills so the demands of the GCSE years can be easily achieved. Students continue to flourish as they enter the Sixth Form where they can choose to study either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or A Levels. Our wide academic curriculum allows them to follow their interests free from gender stereotyping, with two thirds of Sixth Formers taking at least one STEM subject and balancing their options with a mix of Humanities, Languages and Arts.

We are a top five UK girls' sports school, excelling across a wide range of sports including lacrosse, hockey, netball, rowing, tennis and athletics. We offer outstanding art, textiles, music and drama facilities, including a dedicated Music House and a state of the art Drama Studio, enabling the girls to grow as both performers and artists, but also develop skills behind the scenes in technical, and production roles. With over 100 co-curriculum clubs running each year and endless trips and excursions, the choices are vast and our students are always expanding their horizons, taking risks and exploring new opportunities.

Our results speak for themselves. In Summer 2018 we averaged 37.5 points at IB Diploma, 75% of entries attained an A*–B grade at A Level and IB Combined; and over 71% of all GCSE papers were graded A*–A, with 29% of papers awarded a Level 9. Each year over 90% of Sixth Form leavers achieve their first or second place offers and go on to study at top universities both in the UK and overseas. However, more importantly, our girls leave Bedford Girls' School as confident young women ready to make a positive difference to the world around them.
