Introduction

Clifton High School is a 3-18, co-educational, independent day school located at the heart of leafy Clifton Village in beautiful Victorian buildings. Founded in 1877, Clifton High has a rich history of educational excellence and nurturing pastoral support.

Unlike many schools in Bristol, Clifton High was founded, not from a generous endowment, but from the simple desire of a group of pioneering people to provide a first-class education for children. This has created a dynamic feel to the School from its outset, able to thrive and respond to change.

We have exceptional facilities for pupils of all ages to benefit from, including an on-site and off-site extensive sports complex with a swimming pool, a theatre, science laboratories, libraries, specialist music and arts facilities, a STEM room, a recently refurbished dining hall, dedicated study areas, and a new modern Sixth Form Centre.

Academic Success

Academic results at the School are consistently outstanding. In 2022, 77.5% of A Level pupils achieved A*-B grades and 53.6% of GCSE pupils achieved Grades 7 to 9.

At the beginning of their GCSEs and A Levels, pupils sit baseline tests that lead to predicted grades and show the probability of achieving them. At Clifton High, year on year, pupils consistently exceed these predicted grades. In Summer 2022, our pupils' average value added was over a third of a grade at GSCE and over two thirds of a grade at A Level.

From Pre-school to Sixth Form, we are an academically selective school with a rounded holistic approach to learning. Pupils are taught by highly skilled subject specialist teachers across all years in an enriching setting with ample resources and a rich selection of extra-curricular activities.

We deliver the Diamond Edge Model of education where at certain key stages in their learning, boys and girls are taught separately in core subjects. This is shown to help them achieve their maximum potential in the classroom.

Our small class sizes create a strong rapport between teachers and pupils in a personalised learning environment where everyone succeeds. We provide a bespoke offering, with no two pupils taking the same path through the School.

Pastoral Support

The safety of pupils is the foremost important priority of the School. Pastoral care is key to this and therefore the School places it at the centre of our offering.
