Dean Close Airthrie is a co-educational day school of around 80 pupils aged 4-11, based in the heart of Cheltenham. We are a part of the Dean Close Foundation, a group of schools and nurseries, creating a strong community that unite around a shared set of values. The aim is that every child should be given the opportunities to flourish, underpinned by our core values of courage, contribution and love which are the guiding principles behind our educational vision.

Dean Close Airthrie centres on the experience of childhood; the curiosity that nests there and the imagination that makes children so special. Our aim is to allow your child's individuality to flourish, through their experience of excellent learning opportunities combined with the essence of what childhood is all about; from exploration in and outside the classroom to playing make-believe on the pirate ship in the playground. With a high teacher-to-pupil ratio, our dedicated and caring staff are able to ensure that the classroom provides a nurturing, safe and happy learning environment whilst ensuring that each child's individual needs are met.

Meet our Head

"One of the reasons I was drawn to this wonderful school is that we allow children to be children for as long as they possibly can. Childhood is an exciting time of discovery and learning and this should be encouraged in all they do. Let children dream. Let children imagine. This is something we as adults, often forget to do ourselves, as we go about our everyday lives. Airthrie encourages this pursuit of curiosity in a warm and caring environment, where our staff know every child's needs. We aim for our pupils to have a childhood full of imagination, freedom, adventure, risk, creativity, friendship, and innocence."
