Downsend is an innovative and forward-thinking independent school, with a new vision; to inspire a generation to embrace the future, shaping incredible people who will make change in our world.

Downsend educates children from the ages of two to sixteen in Leatherhead, Surrey. Brilliant basics provide the framework for excellent academic outcomes, with children exceeding national and local averages in every area.

A broad and varied curriculum, personalised experiential learning and dynamic teachers are recognised every year by parents, with annual teaching and learning surveys scoring 9.7/10.

The Future Skills vision guides our thinking - we make sure that the opportunities we provide every day are aligned with the skills we know universities and employers seek. Such as working with our sister schools in Chile to provide global opportunities or collaborating to achieve our Eco Schools Green Flag Award.

In every age-group, we seek the opportunities for pupils to work collaboratively on real-life problems, teaching them the importance of teamwork, active listening, engaging communication and resilience.

Downsend has long had a history of embracing a STEAM approach and has recently been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark from the University of Hertfordshire - as well as being recognised by the ISA for a project with the Lego Foundation and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

All pupils from Reception to GCSE benefit from a 1:1 device, using best-in class educational technology to enhance their learning experience and ensure they are true digital natives.

Our sporting reputation is exceptional, with recent successes in National IAPS Football and Hockey tournaments, ESSA Swimming Galas and being listed in The Cricketer as a top 50 school for cricket.

Downsend has seen significant investment in the last few years, with brand new Science, Technology and Art Rooms and a £5m Creative Arts Centre launching in 2022, shortly followed by further specialist GCSE teaching space.

The Good Schools Guide describes Downsend as "A school that marries traditional and progressive, attracting parents from both camps. Its lens is future focused, global and creative and as such is a breath of fresh air for youngsters especially those with a bit of spark about them."
