Haileybury is an independent co-educational boarding school, located between London and Cambridge, in 500 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. Our spectacular grounds are home to outstanding facilities, excellent teaching and superb pastoral care for our community of boarding and day pupils.

Founded in 1862, Haileybury is proud of its history, tradition and values, taking the best from the past whilst also looking to the future. Academic rigour and outstanding co-curricular provision are at the heart of the college, providing exceptional opportunities and a truly all-round education, which enables our pupils to discover enduring passions and talents. Haileyburians leave as confident, tolerant and ambitious individuals, who are leaders and life-long learners and who can make a difference in the world beyond school.

Academic opportunity

We offer a dedicated Lower School for Years 7 and 8, a wide range of GCSEs and IGCSEs and the choice of the IB Diploma or A Levels in the Sixth Form. Haileybury is one of the leading IB schools in the UK as ranked by The Times' IB League Table and in the Top 100 Independent Schools for A Levels.

Boarding and day

More than two thirds of pupils are boarders and school life is centred around the 12 different boarding houses and Lower School. Children may join at 11+, 13+ or 16+. Flexi-boarding is available in Lower School (Years 7 and 8), allowing families this option without committing to full boarding early in a child's senior school career. From Year 9 onwards, full boarding is offered with the additional flexibility of pupils being able (if they so wish) to return home after sports commitments on Saturday afternoons.

Exceptional opportunities

A key part of our philosophy is about empowering each child to follow their passions and to build their self-confidence.

We therefore provide an enormous range of co-curricular opportunities, spanning everything from music and drama to sport and physical activities. There are a huge number of clubs and societies to cater for all interests including sailing, rowing, rugby, lacrosse, netball, swimming, Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Model United Nations, charity and community action and much more.

Pupils benefit from professional sports coaches and the college regularly hosts speakers and performers from the arts, sporting and academic worlds. Music at Haileybury is exceptional, with an abundance of concerts, recitals and public performances each year and more than 30 visiting specialists teaching hundreds of instrumental lessons every week.

Supportive environment

A caring environment is crucial to happiness and fulfilment. For those who join us, Haileybury is like a home-from-home. Warm and friendly, we give each and every child the confidence to find their identity, embracing failings as much as successes in their personal journey of discovery.

A warm welcome

We have a busy programme of Open Days and taster events which take place throughout the year. We warmly invite you to visit to discover what life at Haileybury has to offer and why your child will flourish here.
