Haileybury is a leading independent co-educational boarding and day school, situated on 500 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, just 20 miles north of London.

Haileybury's spectacular grounds are home to outstanding facilities, excellent teaching and superb pastoral care for its community of pupils.

Academic opportunity

The school offers a dedicated Lower School for Years 7 and 8 and a wide range of GCSEs and IGCSEs. In the Sixth Form, pupils can select to study for A levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

Its unrivalled curriculum allows pupils to select personal pathways, such as coding and global civilisations, based on their individual passions. In the Sixth Form, electives include criminology, geopolitics and music technology.

Boarding and day

More than two-thirds of pupils are boarders and school life is centred around 12 boarding houses, Lower School benefitting from having their own house. Pupils join at 11+, 13+, 14+ or 16+ entry points. For Lower School pupils, flexiboarding is available which means families do not have to commit to boarding at this stage and pupils return home for the weekend. From Year 9 onwards, there is the additional flexibility of boarding pupils being able to return home after sporting commitments on Saturday afternoons.

Exceptional opportunities

Beyond the academic curriculum, pupils benefit from a vast array of activities, including professional sports coaching for all and regular visits from speakers and performers from the arts, sporting and academic worlds.

The co-curricular programme is packed with opportunities, from climbing and scuba diving to film making and the Model United Nations - and countless activities in between.

Haileybury also encourages pupils to immerse themselves in the Creative Arts both academically and as part of their co-curricular options. Drama, Music, Dance, LAMDA and Art are at the heart of school life. The school takes pride in hosting spectacular arts productions with multiple showcases per term and pupils are able to take part in music concerts, drama productions and public performances throughout the year.

The first school to do so in the UK, Haileybury is taking part in the global Stan-X programme, a pioneering study of genetics. Working from purpose-built labs, Haileybury pupils are contributing to efforts to find cures for diseases such as pancreatic cancer and diabetes.

Supportive environment

At Haileybury, a caring environment is crucial to a pupil's happiness and fulfilment. There is an emphasis on pastoral care with around-the-clock support from Housemasters and Housemistresses, the chaplain and tutors, as well as an onsite health centre providing a circle of care. The school is a home-from-home, with a warm and friendly feel. Every child is given the confidence to find their identity on a personal journey of discovery.

A warm welcome
