Founded in 1890, our school motto is "spiritu inspiratus" which translates as "lungfuls of inspiration". It was chosen by our pupils and inspired by the 20+ acres of superb, green space that we enjoy at Hazelwood.

We are a school that holds an unshakeable belief in the potential of every single child. Outside of our thriving nursery, pupils enter at age 4 into Reception or at 7+ to the Prep School. Entry at other ages is possible if space permits. Hazelwood School's Nursery and Early Year is open all year round for children from 9 months to 4 years.

A gradual transition is made towards subject specialist tuition in the middle and upper forms. Pupils are prepared for the Common Entrance examinations at 11+ and 13+, and also for Scholarships to Senior Schools.

Extracurricular activity is an important part of every pupil's education. Hazelwood offers over 45 after school clubs across year groups, spanning sport, art, science, leisure and performing arts. We have excellent facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, many games pitches, tennis courts, a food tech kitchen, graphic design suite, a design and technology studio, an innovation suite (called the BOX) and a brand new all-weather astro pitch, completed in the Summer of 2022.

Art, Technology, Music and Drama are also strengths of the school. Our Centenary Theatre incorporates a 200-seat theatre, music school and Chapel. We are also extremely proud of our musical performance space called Bawtree Hall with a 450+ seated auditorium.

For children in Years 7 and 8, our outstanding 2-year foundation programme helping prepare children for transition into Senior School education, includes an Electives programme which enables pupils to choose between a range of subjects from stockbroking, forensic science, home economics, Mandarin, fashion and more.

Our pupils develop a curiosity about the world in which they live and a real passion for learning. Most importantly of all they become confident learners, mature and articulate individuals who love coming to school each day.
