"Heath Mount is a place buzzing with innovation, and scoring notable national achievements in more than one area…our feeling was that no one could fail to love it, with its confident, sparky pupils the best advertisement of all" The Good Schools Guide 2020

Description: Heath Mount is a leading independent day and boarding school for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 13. Our pupils are privileged to be educated at one of the oldest Prep schools in the country situated in the Grade 1 listed mansion of the Woodhall Park Estate just outside Herford.

Our idyllic woodland setting, dynamic teaching staff, family ethos and award-winning pastoral care provide a joyful and stimulating learning environment. We offer a broad curriculum that balances academic rigour with remarkable enrichment opportunities. Our pupils achieve outstanding results within a nurturing and supportive framework that puts happiness and mental wellbeing at the heart of all we do.

Facilities: Our extensive facilities include numerous grass pitches, a heated swimming pool with retractable roof, an all-weather astro court, netball courts, spacious sports hall, professional-standard dance studio, 200 seat state-of-the-art theatre, fitness suite with cardiovascular and strength training equipment and recovery apparatus, cricket nets and a cricket pavilion.

Inside, all classrooms are equipped with the very latest in interactive technology. We have a dedicated ICT suite in the Pre-prep school and a newly refurbished ICT facility in the Prep school.

Our purpose-built Pre-Prep is in the same grounds as the Prep school but separate from it. It has its own library, computer room, music room, dining room and hall in addition to a beautiful outdoor playground. Pre-Prep children also use many of the prep school’s facilities such as the Sports Hall, Astroturf, Swimming Pool, theatre, Pottery Room and Chapel.

Feeder Schools: We feed to a wide range of senior schools including Eton, Harrow, Westminster, Radley, Oundle, Uppingham, Benenden, St Albans Boys, St Albans Girls, Haileybury, Bishop’s Stortford College, Felsted, The Leys, Winchester, Marlborough College and Brighton College.

Exam results: In the academic year 2020-21, all our Year 8 pupils gained entry to their first-choice school and 43% were awarded one or more scholarships across a range of disciplines including academic, art, drama, sport, dance and music.

Entrance procedure: Prospective pupils may be registered with us from any time after birth and we welcome the majority of our children to our Nursery in the September following their third birthday. We are not a selective school and do not assess children starting at this stage.

We usually have a smaller number of spaces available for entry into Reception. We do not formally assess at this age, but will invite your child in to spend time with us to ensure that they have the social and developmental skills to access the Early Years Curriculum.

For entry into the Prep School for Year 3 and above, assessments in Maths, reading, writing and non-verbal reasoning will usually take place. References will also be sought from your child’s current school. Provided we have space in our school we do accept children at any stage from Year 3 up to Year 8 entry.
