Why Kingswood?
Set within 120 beautiful acres on Lansdown in Bath, Kingswood School is a warm and inclusive day and boarding community. It blends academic excellence with strong pastoral care and a rich co-curricular programme. Rooted in tradition and forward-thinking in outlook, Kingswood is a place where intellect, creativity, and compassion are nurtured, enabling every pupil to thrive.
Academic Excellence
Kingswood offers a broad and balanced curriculum combining core disciplines like Mathematics and Science with a strong emphasis on languages, the arts, and drama. Pupils can choose from 20 GCSE subjects and 23 A-levels, with flexibility to study beyond fixed blocks. Popular choices include Maths, Science, Economics, and Psychology, and many Sixth Formers undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to explore personal interests.
Launched in 2024/25, the Advanced Elective Programme for Year 12 encourages deeper learning through seminar-style sessions. Whether exploring income tax and mortgages or designing and racing a miniature F1 car, this mirrors university study and fosters debate, discussion, and independent thinking.
Kingswood's results are consistently strong:
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care lies at the heart of Kingswood. Pupils are part of House communities, supported by houseparents, tutors, and heads of year. Each pupil also has a personal tutor who helps set goals and encourages independent learning.
ISI rated the school's pastoral care as outstanding. Social spaces and games rooms enhance the sense of belonging, and both boarders and day pupils benefit from the friendly, supportive atmosphere. Westwood House, for Years 7 and 8, offers a dedicated space for younger pupils to settle into Senior School life.
Boarding Life
Boarding is available from Year 7 to Year 13, with pupils joining from across the UK and abroad. This diversity creates a vibrant, multicultural community. On-site staff, including residential houseparents, provide round-the-clock care, helping pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to flourish.
Sport
Sport is central to Kingswood's holistic education. Pupils of all abilities are encouraged to participate, whether for competition, fitness or enjoyment. Many represent their counties and beyond in sports including rugby, cricket, netball, hockey, swimming, and athletics.
Facilities include:
Creative Arts
Art
Pupils explore a variety of media – from painting and sculpture to photography and ceramics – In specialist studios and a dedicated Sixth Form space.
Drama
With two major productions annually, pupils take part in acting, backstage work, and technical roles. Trips to theatres in London and New York enrich the experience.
