Tomorrow's role models, shaped today
Nestled in the glorious Malvern Hills, Malvern College is one of England's great independent schools. Since 1865, we have nurtured generations of young people who have gone on to shape the modern world of science, sport, literature, politics, and the arts. From Nobel Prize winners to acclaimed writers, business leaders to public servants, our alumni continue to inspire future generations.
Much has changed since the College first opened its doors, yet our central purpose remains constant: to develop outstanding young people with the confidence, resilience, and initiative to flourish in a rapidly changing global landscape.
An Education for Life
Our academic programme is broad, challenging, and rightly ambitious. Beyond GCSEs, International GCSEs, the International Baccalaureate, A levels, and BTECs, we focus on the value added to each pupil's educational journey, benchmarking performance against national and global standards. Lessons are complemented by lectures, workshops, and visits designed to enrich learning and spark curiosity.
But a Malvern education is about more than academic results. We encourage diversity of thought, creativity, and independence, ensuring pupils don’t simply memorise facts but learn to question, explore, and innovate. Malvern combines academic excellence with emotional and cultural intelligence, equipping pupils with the skills and character to work with anyone, anywhere.
Curriculum Journey
Foundation Year (Year 9)
The Foundation Year builds confidence and independence. Pupils develop study skills, digital fluency, and research ability, supported by our innovative Foundation Year Pupil Passport – a toolkit for extended learning, collaborative projects, and personal growth.
Remove & The Hundred (Years 10 & 11)
These are transformative years. Pupils select GCSE/IGCSE subjects at the end of the Foundation Year, preparing for examinations that showcase their progress and mastery.
Pre-Sixth (Year 11)
For our most able pupils, the Pre-Sixth Form provides an accelerated one-year pathway through GCSE/IGCSEs, allowing them to embrace the challenges and opportunities of Sixth Form study.
Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13)
Our Sixth Form nurtures intellectual ambition and personal responsibility. With 26 subjects across A level, IB, and BTEC pathways, every pupil can follow a course that reflects their talents and aspirations. Malvern has been one of the UK's leading IB schools since 1992, with consistently excellent results placing us among the very best nationally.
Beyond the Classroom
A Malvern education develops the whole person. Our extensive co-curricular and super-curricular programmes – from music, drama, and art to sport, outdoor pursuits, and leadership initiatives – broaden horizons and encourage pupils to embrace life's opportunities with confidence and curiosity.
Every pupil is encouraged to take risks, explore their talents, and contribute to the wider community. We want them to leave Malvern not only academically accomplished, but also self-assured, grounded, and ready to lead.
A Strong, Caring Community
At the heart of Malvern life lies our renowned House system. Each House, led by a Housemaster or Housemistress, provides a close-knit and supportive environment where pupils feel known and valued. Over 75% of our pupils are full boarders, creating a vibrant community seven days a week. Inter-House competitions, shared traditions, and a spirit of camaraderie foster lifelong friendships and loyalty.
Exceptional pastoral care underpins everything we do. With the guidance of Tutors and House staff, pupils are supported through challenges, encouraged to take opportunities, and helped to build the resilience they will carry into adult life.
A Heritage of Excellence, a Future of Possibility
Walking through our historic campus, pupils follow in the footsteps of figures such as C. S. Lewis, Nobel laureate Francis Aston, economist James Meade, and Professor Sir Chris Whitty. They inherit a legacy of achievement but are encouraged to forge their own path, to challenge the status quo, and to shape the future with imagination and integrity.
Malvern College remains the epitome of a classic English education, enriched by a global outlook. Our pupils leave not just prepared for the future, but ready to shape it – role models for tomorrow, shaped today.
