Setting standards for life

Monkton Combe Prep School, just a mile from the World Heritage City of Bath, is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 2-13. We pride ourselves on our lively Christian ethos, excellent exam results and our strong pastoral care.

At Monkton we are setting standards for life; giving young people the qualities of character they need to become trusted employees, inspiring leaders and valued friends.

A progressive curriculum

All Monkton pupils are encouraged to strive for academic excellence. Our independent status allows us to maintain flexibility to choose new developments in education whilst preserving traditional standards. This has enabled us to introduce a dynamic and challenging curriculum across the whole of the Prep School where subject specialist teachers facilitate a greater breadth of learning. Regular events, trips and visitors complement more formal learning, bringing subjects alive and keeping learning fun.

Beyond the classroom

Monkton aims to inspire confidence and a 'give it a go' attitude to its pupils, and we are continually developing the after-school activities programme to give each child a chance to experience something different. Some may enjoy the thrills that sport has to offer; some may prefer a time in the limelight, treading the boards on the stage, or performing at musical recitals; some may enjoy building dens with their friends in Forest School; and others may want to develop their skills in more scientific areas, through imagineering, jewellery making or cooking.

Pastoral care

The happiness and well-being of each child is central to what we do. Through our inclusive approach, each pupil is encouraged to try new things, develop their skills and talents and aim high in every area of school life. At Monkton we believe that every child is an individual, and we provide an education that encourages the development of every child spiritually, emotionally and academically to enable them to go out into the world and play their part in transforming the community and society around them.
