Developing a life-long love of learning in a magical setting...
Orwell Park, established in 1868, is a co-educational prep school for day pupils and boarders from 2 1/2 to 13. The outstanding beauty of the grounds and the historic 18th century buildings contribute to an inspiring experience which combines the legacy and the traditions of the past with the dynamism and energy of the present and future. Outstanding facilities include a working Victorian observatory, a walled garden with outdoor pool, a nine-hole golf course, floodlit sports facilities, a library in the mansion house, as well as a new, state of the art outstanding Pre-Prep facility, which was opened in 2013, set in the shadow of the main building among woods full of opportunities for outdoor learning.
Boys and girls are given every opportunity to be the best they can be, both in and outside the classroom. High expectations, and learning strategies tailored to the individual child, lead to high levels of attainment. Pupils progress to a wide range of senior schools both local and national and our leaving year group in 2018 achieved 31 scholarships in art, academic, music, DT, sport and all-rounder.
Whilst we value greatly the past, we also embrace technology and, as such, every child in Years 3-8 has their own ipad in order to enhance learning in the classroom and beyond. The ipads allow pupils to learn in a way that they are used to, fostering collaboration between pupils, whilst providing portability.
In addition to the traditional curricular subjects, Orwell Park pupils are involved in a comprehensive activity programme, including: orchestra and various ensembles, chess, community service, skiing, equestrianism, climbing on the bouldering wall, OPS Challenge (a two-year mini D of E course), camping and campfire fun in the School's woodlands, Art and DT clubs, Goldies and Blueys (boys' and girls' clubs), as well as numerous large scale theatrical productions. The school achieves success in all the major sports and recently introduced cricket for all girls as the summer sport. In addition, Orwell Park is linked with Mayo College in Rajasthan, India and Year 7 pupils have the opportunity to visit India and sample the Taj Mahal, Jaipur and spend time at one of India's most famous boarding schools.
Boarding is extremely popular at Orwell Park and takes the form of flexible boarding, weekly boarding and full boarding, which incorporates a comprehensive programme of weekend activities. Pupils choose to board, driven by a desire to enjoy the company of friends once the normal school day is over. Dormitories are bright, spacious and clean and a dedicated team of boarding staff and school matrons are totally committed to the health and welfare of the boys and girls in their care.
Join us at an Open Morning to see for yourself what makes Orwell Park such a special and inspirational place to be.
