An 'Excellent' School

St Andrew's Prep is an 'Excellent' rated Prep School offering wrap-around care and located on the beautiful sunshine coast of Eastbourne. With 21st century technology, environmental issues and society continuing to change at a fast pace, we recognise our responsibility to equip our pupils with minds to tackle this modern, high-tech world. Our talented staff is dedicated to preparing the children for the future; teaching them life-long learning, problem-solving and thinking skills alongside leadership and teamwork opportunities and, perhaps most important of all, the tools to become good citizens. The school was quick to react to the Coronavirus crisis and is proud of its outstanding remote and blended learning offering.

Our staff work hard to develop the right attitude towards academic study and encourage our pupils to think for themselves so that they can tackle challenges confidently. Over the last three years, the school's Year 8 pupils have won 96 scholarships to their senior schools including Eastbourne College, Brighton College, Hurst, Gordonstoun King's Canterbury, Millfield and St Edward's Oxford across academics, art, dance, design, drama, performing arts and sport.

"Shortlisted for multiple awards this year (2020) including a category at the Independent School of the Year Awards, this fresh and forward-thinking day and boarding prep, pre-prep and nursery for children aged up to 13 beautifully reflects its location on the edge of Eastbourne, the sunniest place in England." - Muddy Stilettos

Brimming with opportunities

However, success for our pupils can appear in many forms. Opportunities for artistic expression abound in our Creative and Performing Arts programme including Art, DTI (Design, Technology & Innovation), Dance, Drama and Music. The Cultural Curriculum encourages our pupils to be inventive, resourceful and imaginative and it plays a central role in providing our pupils with rewarding opportunities.

In sport, our aim is to promote enjoyment and an understanding of the values and ideals of good sportsmanship that are the essence of team sports. There are teams for every ability and this ensures that each child represents the school. However, our sporting pedigree is excellent with school representatives frequently reaching national finals in athletics and swimming, sometimes winning medals, as well as in other sports.

Beautiful, healthy, seaside location and great facilities

St Andrew's Prep is just a five minute walk to the sea and is nestled at the foot of the South Downs, yet London is near enough for educational and boarding trips. With nature on our front door, we offer unique Forest and Beach Schools - both providing opportunities to complement classroom study with outdoor learning. The children may try woodcarving, pond dipping and shelter building or build a fire around which they drink hot chocolate and toast marshmallows or they may simply play games using the natural resources available to them. The school facilities are excellent and include a 4 lane 20m indoor pool, a Music school, an Art, Design and Innovation block, teaching blocks, pavilion, a rifle range, two libraries and three ICT suites. In 2016, a game-changing Sports Hall and Dance Studio was unveiled and the school pavilion and boarding house have just been refurbished at a cost of more than £200,000.

"This is a strong supportive community; very different, parents say, to London type schools, where the parents are vying for position." The Good Schools Guide

A growing boarding house

The school's boarding house, Colstocks, is in the heart of the school. The House is lively and full of fun but also offers its boarders a place to relax and enjoy the company of friends from around the world. On weekends, our experienced Housemaster and his team offer activities and weekend trips to venues including the British Museum, Thorpe Park, rock climbing, go-karting and trampolining. The school is happy to provide supervised transport to and from London and the airports.
