St Cedd's School is a co-educational independent day school for children aged 3–11, where Big Ambitions, Bold Adventures and Brilliant Achievements come to life.

For over 90 years, St Cedd's School has provided a nurturing environment where every child is ambitious, known, valued and inspired to achieve their best. We offer children educational adventures in a caring environment that nurtures talent and supports individual endeavour. We celebrate every child's diverse talents and qualities, helping them to develop grounded confidence that leads to great personal achievement.

Individual Progress

The progress of children, of all abilities, throughout the School is rapid. Our standardised assessment results and 11+ scores far exceed national averages. Each year we celebrate impressive success in selective grammar school entry, independent school offers and scholarship awards. This level of achievement is significant given that the School is academically non-selective. Assessments on entry capture the strengths and areas for development of each child so that their education is tailored to their individual needs.

Inspection Highlights

The academic excellence of the School, and our provision for the most able, is recognised by the National Association for Able Children in Education through our ongoing NACE Challenge Award accreditation. In addition to this, our most recent ISI inspection, in March 2025, praised EYFS children who speak to each other politely, work together in collaborative activities and remember to wait for their turn in queues, as well as lessons which are characterised by challenges which use helpful, intriguing resources that motivate pupils to explore concepts and develop skills. The report also recognised children who make good progress in all areas of the curriculum, achieve well and are well prepared for their next stage of education, while providing us with clear direction for our continued growth and improvement.

Broad and Balanced Curriculum

Learning at St Cedd's School blends academic rigour with an extraordinary breadth of opportunities. Specialist teaching in PE, Music, French and Science begins in the Pre-School, while our EnrichEd curriculum gives children from Year 1 to Year 6 a chance to explore leadership, creativity, innovation and wellbeing beyond the traditional classroom. In Year 6, our HOLDFAST programme recognises holistic achievement through awards for learning, service and talent, and with over 80 co-curricular clubs and activities, every child is encouraged to discover their passions and shine throughout their time at the School.

As a proud member of the Choir Schools' Association, our Choristers sing in Chelmsford Cathedral, and both Junior and Senior Chamber Choirs perform Evensong regularly. Sport is inclusive yet aspirational, with children encouraged to enjoy participation and strive for excellence, competing successfully at local and national levels.

For over 90 years, children at St Cedd's School have been given the very best start to their educational journey. Breakfast Club operates from 7:30am and wrap-around care runs until 6:00pm. Fees include curriculum-linked extra-curricular activities, lunch and most after-school clubs.
