St David's College: Freedom to Flourish in North Wales
Founded in 1965, St David's College is an award-winning independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 9 to 19. Nestled between the mountains of Snowdonia National Park and the spectacular North Wales coastline, the school is housed within the historic 30-acre Tudor estate of Gloddaeth Hall in Llandudno.
At the heart of St David's College lies a unique ethos: a "whole person" education designed to nurture the academic, creative, and personal growth of every pupil. This approach is centred on the individual, built on Christian principles, and supported by a warm, family-like atmosphere. Pupils are encouraged to discover their unique talents, whether in the classroom, on stage, in the workshop, on the sports field, or in the great outdoors.
Academic Excellence with Learning Support at its Core
St David's College is internationally recognised for its specialist provision for pupils with dyslexia and other learning differences. All subject teachers are trained to support a wide range of learning styles, and class sizes average just 12 pupils. This allows for exceptional levels of individual attention and ensures that every pupil is both supported and challenged to achieve their best.
The curriculum is broad and balanced, offering GCSEs, A Levels, and BTECs, with particular strengths in Sport, Outdoor Education, Performing Arts, and Design Technology. Many pupils progress to leading UK universities, while others pursue professional training or careers in business, engineering, the creative industries, or elite-level sport.
Outdoor Education – A Defining Experience
One of the hallmarks of St David's College is its pioneering Outdoor Education programme, which is embedded into the curriculum from Year 5 onwards. Every fortnight, pupils step beyond the classroom into the mountains, lakes, and coastline of North Wales to learn skills such as sailing, climbing, kayaking, skiing, and navigation.
By facing challenges in the outdoors, pupils build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership – qualities that extend into every area of their lives. The programme culminates in adventurous expeditions, both in the UK and abroad, such as kayaking in the Outer Hebrides or trekking in Morocco.
Boarding Life and Facilities
Boarding at St David's College is warm, supportive, and community-driven. The school provides a range of boarding houses with modern facilities, where pupils are cared for by dedicated house staff. With around 300 pupils in total, the community is small enough for everyone to be known, yet large enough to offer a diverse and stimulating environment.
Facilities on campus include science laboratories, art and design studios, a theatre, sports pitches, and access to sailing dinghies at Llyn Brenig. The historic Gloddaeth Hall itself provides an inspiring setting for learning and community life.
A Place Where Every Child Can Flourish
St David's College is more than just a school – it is a place where children grow into confident, capable, and compassionate young people. By combining academic rigour with outstanding pastoral care, world-class outdoor education, and a rich programme of co-curricular opportunities, the school equips pupils not only for exams, but for life.
As one parent commented: "It's more than a school, it is an experience in learning, fun and respect."
At St David's College, every pupil is given the freedom to flourish.
