Town Close School is a leading independent and co-educational day school for children aged 3 - 13. The School, based in the heart of the city of Norwich, was founded in 1932 and became a Charitable Trust in 1968. Boys and girls can start at the School from three years old and most remain with us until they are 13 (Year 8).
Children at Town Close enjoy an exceptional start to their educational journey, experiencing academic rigour, intellectual enquiry and an amazing array of co-curricular experiences, enhancing their moral, social, physical and academic development in preparation for their future lives. There is a spirit of happiness and collaboration amongst the Town Close family, a reflection of our values encapsulated in the 'Town Close Way'.
Our idyllic fifteen-acre woodland site gives children the space and freedom to play and explore and the quality of education on offer, has been reflected in excellent ISI inspection reports and winning the prestigious Tes Pre Prep/Prep School of the Year Award in 2020.
Our classes are small and the children are prepared for all major senior schools, whilst those showing special promise sit scholarships.
Children progress through a broad and varied programme of activities with a strong emphasis on the development of personal and social skills and on establishing positive attitudes to learning and to school life. A wide range of extra-curricular activities, trips and expeditions form a valuable part of what we offer, and provide the balance essential for a full and rounded education. A range of activities also take place during the lunch hour, after school, and occasionally at weekends.
The School also has an excellent sporting reputation. Facilities include a high specification purpose-built sports hall, an indoor heated swimming pool, sports fields and Astroturf.
Physical Education plays an important part in the development of all our children (whether in the Nursery or in Year 8), helping to nurture a positive, competitive attitude, individual skills and teamwork. Children enjoy all the major sports such as rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, athletics and rounders, and coaching is offered in many other minor sports, with many coaches having competed at county or national level.
Music, Art and Drama form a central part of the School's activities with all children encouraged to perform. The School has an orchestra, choirs and a wide range of ensembles, with concerts taking place regularly in our state-of-the-art performance hall.
Pastorally, pupils benefit from a dedicated learning support department, which co-ordinates support for 65 pupils and provides in-School counselling. Bella, the Australian Labradoodle, is the most recent member of the team, providing comfort and support to children who may need it.
