When it comes to the quintessential English prep school, Windlesham is the real thing and was one of the first prep schools in the UK. Found in 1837 and the first prep school to go co-ed, children have that rare combination of excellence, happiness & aplomb.
Headmaster, Richard Foster and his wife Rachel, believe that children only truly achieve if they are genuinely comfortable in their environment. This permeates the school with a big emphasis on pastoral care, making sure that the school becomes a genuine 'home from home'. Rachel is the Head of Pastoral Care and Safeguarding for the school.
At Windlesham children have the time and space to be children, away from the pressures of competition and urban hothousing. Windlesham is set in exceptionally beautiful grounds with magnificent buildings and facilities.
Windlesham is a true boarding prep school with a strong day contingent. The majority of children are from the UK but we welcome children from overseas and have children from around 15 different countries; Weekends are packed with sport and organised activities.
Great care is taken to communicate with parents and it is very much a partnership with the School. Children and parents communicate via Skype, phone and emails. Families are welcomed at drama and musical events in the Malden Family Theatre, Sunday chapel services and sporting fixtures.
Each pupil joins one of six houses where experienced Houseparents provide the very best pastoral care for children while acting as a crucial communication channel between the parents, the children and their teachers.
The range of subjects, sports and music on offer is almost limitless. If you want your child to study Greek, Mandarin, play the piccolo or learn real tennis, no problem! Windlesham produces a consistent stream of high-flyers, all-rounders and scholars (including all-rounder, sport, academic, drama and music scholarships) with 2 pupils last year awarded Kings scholars at Eton. Windlesham's leavers went onto over 35 different schools last year, including Brighton College, Oundle, Marlborough, Eton, Lancing, Bryanston etc.
Pupils are encouraged to try anything, so they can learn what they are good at. Budding digital entrepreneurs can stay busy in the new ICT centre, with its rows of iMacs, using the 'Minecraft' platform and robotics, book-worms are treated to visits from famous children's authors and an endlessly stocked library.
Windlesham sits in 65 acres of the glorious South Downs where the woods have tree houses & a pizza oven. There is an adventure playground and a busy week-end programme with over 250 extra-curricular activities to choose from!
The beautiful grounds are also well-used for sports and this has recently been further enhanced with the development of a new state of the art swimming pool and sports hall. This has a 25 metre, 6-lane competition size indoor pool built using the latest technology. The new sports hall holds 4 indoor playing courts accommodating basketball, netball, hockey, tennis and badminton. This new development compliments the flood lit astro that allows children to play sport for much longer and further enhances our sports offering.
It is no wonder that one father described Windlesham as "the school you dream you went to yourself!"
