Sweet-toothed fundraiser Hannah Malyon-Davies has raised over £2500 for the NHS - and put a smile on hospital heroes’ faces - by selling her family’s popular confectionery treats.

Inspired by Captain Tom Moore's 100th Birthday Walk, Fifth Year Brentwood School pupil Hannah also wanted to make her late grandfather, founder of Rascal Confectionery, proud…. and she has certainly achieved that!

The sixteen-year-old’s sweet delicacies were quickly snapped up by chocolate lovers, so Hannah and her sisters set about making 600 special bags of treats for staff at three local hospitals.

Hannah explained: “I was inspired to start fundraising after watching the progress of Captain Tom walking around his garden and raising money for the NHS. My Grandad also came to my mind, as I wanted to make him proud.

“My Grandad, Allan Malyon, started Rascal Confectionery 50 years ago, and sadly he passed away 18 months ago. My parents now run the business.

“I know my family and friends absolutely love our chocolates, so I thought to help raise money for the NHS, I would start selling (via my Instagram page), Milk Chocolate Raisins and Milk Chocolate Honeycomb.

“The cost was £1 per bag, minimum 5 bags. We set up at home in our dining room and started packing 200gram bags of the two products. We wore gloves and face masks at all times. My two sisters also advertised on their Instagram page. The orders came flooding in.

“We would pack the chocolates then make bags for delivery for each person who ordered. The deliveries were made by my parents driving or my sisters to people’s houses, we would leave the bag on their doorstep, ring the bell and stand back, we thanked everyone.

“After a week, we had to close the charity page as I had to return to online school work and concentrate on making up bags of chocolate for the staff at three local hospitals. We packed 600 bags of Milk Chocolate Honeycomb. 200 bags of each going to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, Broomfield in Chelmsford and Basildon Hospital.

“We raised an amount of £2551 which went directly to the NHS. We also sent Captain Tom a large selection of our confectionery for his 100th Birthday. Please can I say a big thank you to anyone reading this who made a donation.”
