Brentwood School super scout Jack Elsworth is busy raising much-needed funds for the trip of a lifetime to the 2019 Australian Jamboree where he will represent both Essex Scouts and the United Kingdom.

Fourth Former Jack – who has been involved with the Scouting movement since he was just six years old – will spend a few days in Hong Kong before heading to Australia for the ten-day Jamboree.

The 25th Australian Jamboree (AJ2019) will be held from 4th–14th January in Adelaide, South Australia, and will witness a ‘pop-up’ city of 10,000 – a Scout camp that is so big it has to have its own hospital, post office, newspaper, radio station, bus station and mail!

Fifteen-year-old Jack, an Explorer Scout, is on a final fundraising push for the £3550 he needs for this amazing opportunity. He has already taken part in a race night, cake sales, cleaned cars, and put on his gardening gloves in support of his trip. He even abseiled from the top of the Orbit in the Olympic Park – a huge personal challenge, as he is not a fan of heights.

After joining the Beavers, Jack progressed through the Cubs and Scouts units achieving a number of badges. He also gained the Chief Scouts Gold Award – the highest award in the Scout section.

After a few days in Hong Kong, he will head to Australia, seeing in the New Year in Cairns, before exploring the Great Barrier Reef and the National Heritage Rainforests. At the conclusion of the Jamboree, Jack will move on to Sydney where visits to the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Blue Mountains await.

During the Jamboree, Jack will join Scouts from across the South Pacific and Australasian continent undertaking community projects and taking part in adventurous activities and teambuilding challenges.

If you would like to support Jack’s fundraising efforts, additional events – including a curry night and vintage afternoon teas – are still in the pipeline. For further information, please contact proud mum Mrs Liz Elsworth: lizelsworth@hotmail.com
