Performing Arts at Brentwood School enjoy an enviable national reputation and the Faculty’s prolific remote learning offering has only further enhanced its standing.

Whereas many schools have struggled during the enforced lockdown, Brentwood’s students and staff have risen to the challenge, smashing online records along the way.

Over the past 11 weeks, the Performing Arts community has produced 67 different online performances in Dance, Drama and Music, and the hardworking team have received a staggering 3,200+ individual recorded submissions.

A specially-created Performing Arts in Lockdown playlist on YouTube has seen audience numbers approaching 38,000 and brought the department to the world’s attention.

Proud Director of Performing Arts, Mr Matthew Bulmer, said: “We have worked with industry professionals from the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, and West End as well as a huge assortment of musicians from orchestras and choirs from around the world. We have been featured twice on BBC Essex and our work has been recognised by IE Today and shared with schools around the country.”

There has been an explosion in popularity in the Performing Arts at Brentwood School in recent years. The Faculty’s provision was recently ‘Highly Commended’ by an independent schools’ award panel, which offers further evidence that the Faculty is one of the best in the country.

On top of Steinway Accreditation, the flourishing department runs an Endangered Instrument Scheme and the provision of free school instruments which are loaned to students across the school.

The question mark which hangs over its hashtag #bestmusicdepartmentinthecountry? - popular on Twitter and Instagram - can now probably be removed.
