Dauntsey’s unveils ambitious drama programme for 2018/19

Dauntsey’s has announced an ambitious Drama programme for the next academic year. Productions for 2018-2019 will include, for the Autumn Term:

-‘Medicine Cabinet’ – a new play written and directed by an Upper Sixth pupil

-‘Fall of the House of Usher’ – a production of Steven Berkoff’s adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s short story

-‘The Virtuous Burglar’ – a farcical comedy by the Italian actor-playwright, Dario Fo

-‘Our House’ – the December musical will be a production of this Olivier award-winning, Madness-inspired show, featuring a large cast and popular songs such as ‘Baggy Trousers’ and ‘Embarrassment’.

The Easter term programme will be made up of:

-‘Delta’ – a new play written and directed by our Performing Arts Manager, Mr Herring

-‘The Pillowman’ – a play by the Irish, Oscar and Olivier winning playwright, Martin McDonagh

-‘Danny, Champion of the World’ – The Lower School will conclude the term with a production of Roald Dahl’s much-loved story.

The Summer Term will feature the return of The Summer Festival. The Festival Programme will include:

-Annual Lower School Dance Show

-Senior Dance Show which will be an interpretation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ using music from Baz Lurhman’s 1996 film

-‘Tristan and Yseult’ – CornishKneehigh Theatre has granted special permission for the School to perform this critically-acclaimed production

-‘Bouncers/Shakers’ – John Godber’s classic comedies performed together

Rikki Jackson, Director of Drama, Dauntsey’s said:

“Along with devising practical exams and a dance Showcase, it should be a memorable and varied Programme offering a huge amount for everyone to get involved with, both on stage and behind the scenes.

“The December musical is always a much-anticipated highlight and we hope the energetic choreography and colourful staging of ‘Our House’ will be a popular and feel good choice – for pupils and audience alike.”
