Felsted School netballer Poppy Tydeman (aged 16 and from Great Dunmow) has been awarded a place in the Benecos Mavericks National Performance League U17 team, where she will be playing against other top players in the country.

After beginning her netball journey at Felsted Prep School, Poppy joined Braintree Youth Netball Club before going on to become the youngest member of the Felsted 1st team in Year 9 at just 14 years old. Poppy quickly progressed to be spotted by Chelmsford Netball Club where she was selected to play for Chelmsford Division 1 Netball team. She was then selected for Essex County Netball and soon after was selected for the Mavericks Pathway Academy programme where she gained vital experience and knowledge that she could later bring to her successful Mavericks NPL trial. This achievement also coincides with her recent vice captaincy selection for the U19 National Schools 2018/2019 Tournament.

Poppy currently plays club netball for Turnford Netball Club and qualified for the U16 Club Regionals. A successful sports scholar at Felsted School, Poppy is also a keen hockey player and member of the athletics group.

Current Mavericks Superleague player and Felsted Netball Coach Lindsay Keable comments, ‘We are very proud of Poppy's achievement and wish her every success in this year’s season. We eagerly await her future within the Vitality Netball Superleague.’

There is a highly successful netball programme for all ages at Felsted, where girls benefit from the expert coaching of ex-England and current Superleague Player Lindsay Keable. The school also holds a partnership with Superleague club Benecos Mavericks, which is helping to support the school’s netball programme and to provide a superior netball pathway for talented pupils.
