Maltman’s Green School is delighted to achieve ‘Excellent’ in all areas in its latest ISI Inspection.

Maltman’s Green girls’ school delivers an outstanding academic and extra-curricular programme from our 400-year-old malting house in the heart of the home counties green-belt. On a beautiful 12-acre site in leafy Gerrards Cross, Maltman’s girls can enjoy some of the best facilities around, from flood lit sports courts and playing fields to a heated six lane 25m swimming pool. We provide a nurturing environment from age 2 through to 11 when our happy and confident girls progress to senior school. Throughout their time at Maltman’s, each girl is treated as an individual and given the opportunity to find her passions and unlock her talents.

Maltman’s Green may be non-selective but our outcomes and pupil achievements mirror those of highly selective schools – as proven by our recent 81% Secondary Transfer Test (11+) qualification rate and twenty scholarships awarded to independent senior schools. Maltman’s girls progress to some of the best senior schools in the country – both grammar and independent – including Wycombe Abbey, Cheltenham Ladies College, Downe House and Dr Challoner’s High School. How do we achieve this? Through an ambitious and dynamic curriculum, a nurturing environment and dedicated staff, meaning that our pupils are supported, inspired and encouraged to achieve their very best.

This rigorous approach and excellent teaching were highlighted by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) at their most recent inspection in February 2022, when Maltman’s Green was awarded ‘excellent’ in all areas – an outstanding achievement. Some of the comments made by the inspectors highlight both the quality of education we provide and the personal development we promote in our pupils:

“The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent. Pupils of all ages and abilities make excellent progress over time because of the systematic use of the assessment framework in planning for individual needs. Pupils’ linguistic and other mathematical skills are outstanding, and pupils apply these with great confidence to other areas of learning. Pupils demonstrate excellent attitudes to learning when the curriculum creates opportunities for them to develop independence in their learning. Pupils readily think for themselves and acquire higher-order thinking skills which they instinctively apply to all areas of learning.

“The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent. Pupils’ self confidence and self-esteem are outstanding. Pupils’ social development and collaboration are extremely strong; they undertake positions of responsibility with great pleasure and success. Pupils make an excellent contribution to the school and the wider community. Pupils show great respect, and interest, in each other’s cultural beliefs and values.

“Pupils of all ages make excellent progress over time, as a result of the many opportunities provided for them to succeed.

The Maltman’s girls continue to impress beyond the school gates. Girls compete in a host of national sporting competitions, most recently being crowned U11 National Champions at the Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (ISGA) Championship and the British Schools Gymnastics Association (BSGA) Milano Team National Finals. The girls also scooped U10 team Silver and U9 team Bronze at the ISGA championships as well as a number of individual medals, including National Champion Gold at the BSGA Championships. There were also huge successes at the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) National Gymnastics Championship in November 2021. This academic year alone, girls have had sport masterclasses from former England international netball star, Tracey Neville, and the inspiring footballer, Charlie Fogarty. They compete in national swimming galas, netball tournaments and cricket and tennis festivals.

In 2022, 123 girls from Years 1-6 took part in LAMDA Acting exams, and there is opportunity for girls to learn instruments including the saxophone and harp, and take part in language lessons, such as Spanish, French, German and Mandarin. Ballet has also been provided at Maltman’s Green for over 25 years and has a 100% pass rate in ballet exams. The Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus is taught from Pre-Primary upwards.

In their final year at Maltman’s Green, the Year 6 girls enjoy a full programme of enriching experiences to give them a final year of fun memories with their peers and to teach valuable life skills that will set them in good stead as they move onto their senior schools.

With no signs of slowing down, Maltman’s Green really is going from strength to strength, and with no barriers to success for these fortunate girls, the future certainly is bright.
