Pupils and staff at Haileybury are rejoicing as sixth formers received outstanding A level grades.

The school is pleased to share a fantastic year of results for pupils, who have achieved superb grades despite the ongoing challenges caused by the pandemic. Haileybury has reported that 36% of all results were graded at A*, 70% of all results were graded A* or A and in total, 91.5% of all grades were awarded at A* to B grades, demonstrating the commitment and resilience of its pupils and creating much to be proud of for.

Pupils at the school also achieved a fantastic set of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) results early this year. When A level results are taken in combination with the IBDP, the 2021 graduating class of Haileybury achieved a brilliant 95% of grades at A*-B or the equivalent.

All pupils are excited to progress onto the next stage of their lives, across a range of destinations including some of the world’s leading universities.

Pupils who achieved results of particular note include:

  • Joshua, who successfully achieved four A* grades. Joshua will now go on to study Mathematics at the University of Oxford.
  • Julian who received five A levels; three of these were graded at A* and two were graded at A. Julian will be joining the University of Cambridge to study Law.
  • Oscar who achieved four A* grades and has secured his place to study Natural Sciences at the University of Bath.
  • Tiffany who received three A* grades and an A grade, securing her place at University College London to study Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance.
  • Charlotte, Lily and Lexi who all achieved three A* grades. Charlotte is heading to the University of Bristol and Lexi has secured her place to study at University of Birmingham.
  • A further 13 pupils at Haileybury were awarded three A*s or better.

This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government decided that young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work pupils produced throughout their course. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards which awarded the final grades. It is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of Haileybury’s pupils that they achieved such exceptional results in such difficult circumstances.

Martin Collier, The Master at Haileybury, said:

“'This is an excellent set of examination results. We are deeply proud of our pupils and impressed by their considerable achievements. These results stand as a testament to our pupils' resilience, hard work and determination to succeed to the very best of their ability.

“These grades are also the result of the extraordinary efforts, individual and collective, of the teaching staff. Despite the considerable obstacles faced over the course of two years of study, the pupils have achieved the grades that they deserve.

“We are delighted to see them receive their results today and we look forward to seeing them progress on to the next steps, whether that be university, apprenticeships or into the world of work!”

On receiving his A level grades, Haileybury pupil, Oscar, said:

“I have accepted my offer from Bath to study Natural Sciences. I am excited about what university brings and look forward to the next challenge. I have enjoyed and gained so much from my time at Haileybury, it is a great community and there are so many fantastic opportunities beyond the excellent academic support. I would like to thank my parents, staff and friends for being with me the whole way.”

Speaking about her achievements, Haileybury pupil, Charlotte, said:

“I honestly couldn’t quite believe it. I worked as hard as I could and pushed myself to achieve my fullest potential and I couldn’t be happier! Haileybury will always have a special place in my heart; having come into Lower School at age 11, it has been a second home to me. Thank you to everyone who was part of my Haileybury journey!”

On receiving his A level grades, Haileybury pupil, Julian, said:

“I am incredibly happy and proud; I can’t quite believe everything that is happening is real. I am also thankful because getting this far would not have been possible without my amazing teachers. I have not once regretted coming to Haileybury and it is not easy to accept that this fantastic part of my life is now over.”
