Hazlegrove Prep School introduced some of its youngest pupils to its oldest facts and figures this term when Year 1 enjoyed a tour as part of their topic learning about 'Our School'.

The well-known prep school enjoys a rich history including the King John's Oak which is thought to be nearly 1000 years old and the Aragon Room with its original plaster ceiling, showing the Tudor rose and pomegranate, suggesting that the house may have been built in the time of Catherine of Aragon.

As part of their tour, the children also ventured in to the headmaster’s study to see a portrait of Carew Hervey Mildmay who nearly 300 years ago commissioned the remodelling of Hazlegrove House in the Italian style.

Deputy Head of Pre Prep Ellie Lee said, ‘We looked at old photos, stood on the spot they were taken and observed the differences between then and now. The children were all rather pleased that the swimming pool is no longer outside, but in the sports hall built on the site of an old orchard. It was a lovely way to introduce the children to history and to a greater awareness of their surroundings.’
