On Wednesday 19 June, four Leehurst Swan pupils travelled to the Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham to compete for the South West region in the National ISA athletics finals, with Immy Tanner claiming silver in the 1500m.

Immy ran like a gazelle as usual and earned a silver medal in the Y10/11 girls' 1500m, and 4th in the 300m.

In the 1500m, Immy set off leading the pack and quickly established a strong lead with only one other runner in contact with her. At 1000m it was clear that one of these two runners would be the ultimate winner.

With 350m to go the second placed girl started to close on Immy and at 300m to go just squeezed past her. Immy, despite working hard to keep with her, saw the gap increase until the 100m point where, although Immy kicked hard and clearly was gaining ground, ultimately had to settle for second.

In the 300m race, run only one hour later, Immy, with very tired legs, finished 5th soundly beating the 1500m winner who finished in 6th.

Afterwards Immy said: "I enjoyed both races very much. I should have stuck to the 1500m winner when she passed me at the 300m point, but nevertheless I am very pleased with my result and pleased that I was able to beat her in the later 300m race."
