Lord Wandsworth College are delighted to have been awarded the Boarding Schools’ Association Wellbeing & Mental Health Initiative Award 2019

Lord Wandsworth College has been recognised at a national level for its development of an extensive programme of initiatives to ensure the wellbeing and mental health of its pupils.

Head of School, Mr Adam Williams, discusses: “The Wellbeing Mental Health Initiative Award celebrates schools that have embedded initiatives that provide supportive environments and programmes that enhance self-esteem, strengthen the school community, and activities that promote healthy choices.

CHARACTER EDUCATION

To support wellbeing and mental health we offer:

- 4 days a week of counselling, free at the point of delivery for all students

- FEIPS Qualified staff member (Framework for Enhanced Individual Pastoral Support)

- Mental Health First Aid Trainer qualified member of staff – with over 25 members of staff qualified as Mental Health First Aiders

- Whole school mass participation events purely for the purpose of holistic wellbeing: Colour Run and Santa Dash

- Newly refurbished dining hall, Julyans, with incredible, delicious, balanced meals for students and staff

Saturday morning programme – designed to enable students to try something new or pursue what they love whilst encouraging them to be curious, creative and active

Outreach programme where students work within the community

‘Be The Healthiest You’ postcards and posters with assembly reinforcement

This year we introduced a new initiative, the Parental Engagement Programme, to educate and support parents in areas such as teens using screens, developing performance character, parenting teens.

The award and recognition that we received spurs us on to enhance further what we do for our pupils. The well-being of our pupils in this challenging era of growing up is everyone’s responsibility. My thanks go out to the whole staff at Lord Wandsworth College and to our parents for their support."

Lord Wandsworth College was also one of three top schools in the UK shortlisted for the BSA Working with Vulnerable Children Award in recognition of the incredible work of the Foundation in providing a safe and caring boarding environment for children who have lost the support of one or both parents through death, divorce or separation.
