Millfield Football’s boys’ first team have taken home the International Schools’ Football Association cup for the fifth time.

The first team travelled to Buckinghamshire to compete in the final against Queen Ethelburga’s College, from York, at Stadium MK, the home of MK Dons in Milton Keynes. It was a closely contended match with Millfield taking the win in extra time making the final score 5-4. The trophy was lifted by captain Ben Jones in front of the 500 strong crowd of fellow students and teachers who made the 300 mile round trip to support the boys.

The squad, made up of students in Sixth Form, has had a number of notable recent callups for American universities. Both Toby McCallum and Rafa Pereria have received scholarships to study at Ashland University in Ohio Cleveland. Ben Jones will attend Adelphi University in New York City on a soccer and academic scholarship and Dominic Clatworthy will study at McKendree University in Illinois on a soccer scholarship. Other members of the team are aiming to study at American universities which are yet to be confirmed.

Coach Terry Akhurst travelled for his 11th ISFA final which is his last before he retires at the end of this academic year. After 20 years of service as a Mathematics teacher alongside being Head of Football, Terry has been a key part of a number of students’ Millfield journeys.Terry said: “After 20 years of coaching at Millfield it was great to go out on a real ‘high’ at MK Dons stadium this year. Millfield Football is in a perfect place to kick on and improve even more.”
