Millfield Sixth Form student Yuhka Machino has won a bronze medal and honourable mention at the 2020 Romanian Master of Mathematics Competition in Bucharest, in February.

Yuhka competed as part of the UK team, who placed 5th in the team competition with Russia taking the top spot, followed by Ukraine, USA and Bulgaria. Yuhka placed joint 43rd out of over 120 of the best young mathematicians in the world.

The Romanian Master of Mathematics competition provides a great opportunity for young people to demonstrate their abilities in Mathematics, to exchange knowledge and to enhance cross-cultural contacts.

Yuhka recently competed with the Millfield Mathematics team in the UK Mathematics Trust’s National Senior Team Maths Challenge and was named as one of the top young mathematicians in Europe after winning the only gold medal as part of the UK team at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad last year.

Millfield has one of the largest Mathematics departments of any independent school, with an experienced team of 24 teaching staff.
