New Prep Den at Bridgewater School keeps focus on wellbeing

Pastoral care is at the centre of the Bridgewater ethos. Helping pupils develop their social and emotional wellbeing, and enabling them to become happy and self-confident learners, remains a key target for all involved.

The school’s aim, to enable children to manage times of change and stress so that they reach their potential, is helped by the recent addition of a new DEN. Situated in the Prep Department, the DEN (which stands for ‘Develop, Encourage and Nurture’) provides a safe, calming space for pupils and staff to engage on a one-to-one basis and a place where those children who need help in recognising their emotions can develop key coping skills.

The DEN is a valuable asset to Bridgewater’s Prep Department and provides a further link between academic and pastoral support, enabling younger children to engage more effectively in their learning and participation, both in and outside of the classroom.
