Running in support of New College Worcester – August 2019

Posted on 16th Aug 2019 in School News, Fundraising

Local residents, Duncan Kings and Sue Hunt, have donned their running shoes in preparation for this year’s Worcester Run in September.

Duncan and Sue are both raising money for New College Worcester (a college for young people – aged 11-19, who are blind or vision impaired). Duncan has been volunteering as a football referee for 20 years and a blind and VI football referee for 5 years. He initially got involved through friends and fellow referees and decided to give it a try and he absolutely loves it.

He said, “I really enjoy running and being outdoors, but attempting a half marathon is definitely a challenge for me and I am putting in lots of training over the summer. I try and run in different locations to keep it interesting, like the Wyre Forest. I want to raise money to enable the college to buy much needed equipment and supplies to help the students study and live as independently as possible.”

Sue is preparing for the 10k and is also a keen runner. Sue has worked at New College Worcester for several years and has seen first-hand just what a positive difference the college has made on the students.

Ele Millward (fundraiser at New College Worcester) stated, “We’re really grateful to Duncan and Sue for taking on this challenge. There is something for everyone this year, with a 10k, half marathon and a new event on Saturday evening – 1,2,3 –you choose your distance and there is still time to enter. All sponsor money raised will go towards ensuring students have the best possible opportunities to succeed. We’d love you to become an NCW champion.”
