Ipswich School’s U17 girls brought another national cricket title back to Suffolk last week as they triumphed in the National T20 Cup for their age group. In September, a number of the team were the U15 T20 champions.

The U17 finals were held at Arundel Castle cricket ground and saw the Ipswich girls win the toss and elect to field first against Bradfield College.

Due to rain, the overs were reduced to T15, but with some brilliant fielding and bowling of tight lines Ipswich kept Bradfield to 101-3 by the end of their 15 overs. In the Ipswich batting, running hard and finding the gaps for boundaries allowed the team to chase down their score efficiently, and see Ipswich into the finals by the 14th over.

In the finals Ipswich faced Forest School, winning the toss and electing to field again for the 20 overs. A stunning hat trick from Ishani, a runout from Amie and a stunning delivery from Evie did some damage to Forest’s batting lineup, and an impressive fielding display from all allowed Ipswich to keep the opposition’s total to 129.

With a respectable score to chase at the crease, Eliza gave Ipswich a good start with her 24 off 21, and a brilliant partnership between Evie (54 off 43) and Bella (43 off 43), brought home the win, and Ipswich were crowned U17 National Champions.

Nicholas Weaver, Headmaster of Ipswich School, said: “I am delighted to hear of yet another national success for the girls’ cricket programme at Ipswich - with the U18 T20 finals still to play this week. Well done to all the squad, who should be extremely proud of their performance and commitment to the team throughout the day.”
