St Columba’s College pays tribute at Remembrance Day services

Staff and students at St Columba's College have recently paid tribute to those who have lost their lives whilst serving our country.

At the CCF Drumhead Service held last month, two wreaths were laid at the Drumhead alter, and the two minutes silence was observed.

On Remembrance Sunday, adults from the CCF observing social distancing and lockdown regulations, delivered the wreaths to the Park Street War Memorial. One wreath was from the College to the honoured who have passed away, and the other was to Captain Philippson from the CCF Contingent. Captain Philippson is an Old Columban, who sadly lost his life on Operations in Afghanistan on 11th June 2006. His name is on the monument at the Park Street Memorial.

A virtual Remembrance Assembly was also held on Friday at school, with the Last Post being played from the school playground at 11am for everyone to hear.

A virtual Commemorative Service was also held to remember all deceased members of the Columban community. Brother Nelson, the College Chaplain, held a pre-recorded Service, and the Schola Cantorum recorded the wonderful accompanying music.

We were delighted to be able to hold the Service for the community this year, which means so much to the community.
