Upper sixth formers at St Swithun’s in Winchester are celebrating receiving offers to study at Oxford or Cambridge universities following their successful applications last autumn. 10% of the year group are now hoping to take up their places on a range of courses including medicine, natural sciences, human sciences, land economy, philosophy, archaeology and anthropology and geography.

Offers have also been received by St Swithun’s A level students to study competitive courses at other top UK and Ivy League universities.

Head of St Swithun’s, Jane Gandee, said: "Our sixth form programme is about much more than exam results as a ticket to university. Our students learn academic research skills and rigour which allow them to succeed when they get there. They study explicitly the skills to succeed in the modern workplace and in their personal lives and they have unselfconscious fun along the way. When they leave us, they are truly prepared to make their mark on the world whatever their destination. We are proud of the focus of all our U6 who have made successful applications this year."
