Taunton Brewhouse is partnering with Taunton School to stage a brand new adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, featuring a professional cast of actor-musicians and a youth ensemble from the local area. The musical is due to open on December 4th.

“We’re thrilled to have this sponsorship from Taunton School,” said Vickie Hobbs, Executive Director of The Brewhouse. “Their support as Principal Sponsor is vital to us putting on this production. Working together with a professional cast and creative team, the Youth Ensemble will bring the joy of Christmas to families across the South West.”

Ms Hobbs said additional funding from Taunton School would enhance the theatre’s ability to involve local young people.

The reworking of A Christmas Carol by the Pleasure Dome Theatre Company will be given a local twist by focusing on a young girl whose train from Taunton to London is delayed on Christmas Eve. She escapes the chaos of the cramped carriage on board by losing herself in a mysterious old book – the beginning of a magical journey full of enchanting puppetry and original music.

“It is a privilege to be able to support such a brilliant initiative that provides young people who are passionate about the Performing Arts with an opportunity to experience a large-scale production,” said Matthew Cook, Taunton School Deputy Head.

The Performing Arts play a central role in the daily life of Taunton School, with a wide range of opportunities on offer and a reputation for both breadth and excellence in dance, drama and music.

“We know just how crucial these creative endeavours are in the development of our own students, building confidence and self-esteem,” said Mr Cook. “I wish all involved, particularly those in the Youth Ensemble, the best of luck in their preparations.”

Taunton Brewhouse is the largest theatre and arts centre in Taunton, Somerset’s county town. It is a multi-purpose arts centre, catering for professional arts organisations, community groups, schools and businesses.
