Pupils at The Froebelian School, Horsforth, welcomed a very special visitor as part of the school’s Literacy Festival this term. Yorkshire children’s poet, writer and storyteller Conrad Burdekin spent two days helping to inspire each and every child aged 3-11 to write.

Known for books such as Supersonic Gran and other poems and The Baked Bean Queen, the acclaimed Wakefield-born author held writing workshops for each class.

Conrad said: ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the children at Froebelian. I have been visiting schools for over ten years, sharing my stories and poems and inspiring children to believe that they, too, can become writers.’

Headteacher of Froebelian Catherine Dodds added: ‘Conrad has provided the perfect springboard for our inaugural Literacy Festival. The children have engaged brilliantly in the sessions and the staff have been impressed by the impact the workshops have had on the children’s writing. Conrad’s enthusiasm for writing is infectious!’

‘Conrad is so much fun. It was brilliant.’ – a Froebelian pupil
