Churcher’s College sixth formers train as LTA tennis coaches

This term, ten Churcher’s College sixth form students have been taking part in an LTA Level 1 Tennis Coaching course, going into local schools to teach tennis to younger pupils.

The sixth formers attended a part-time course for six weeks mentored by an LTA coach in which they learnt how to plan and deliver lessons and teach tennis technique to pupils. Herne Junior School and Greatham Primary School pupils (age 6–8) then attended training sessions which were fully planned and run by the sixth formers.

The course is quite comprehensive, asking the students to complete a folder of required paperwork and answer questions relating to various aspects of tennis. They were then assessed by an independent assessor on their delivery and quality of session to the pupils. We are pleased to report they were all successful in achieving their Level 1 LTA Coaching course which means they will all be able to run sessions at a club or school in the future.

Well done to the students involved for taking part in a venture which is benefiting the community as well as teaching them a valuable skill they can use in the future.
